  • Stolen Identity?

Who are these people...what is their identity?

Last night my son’s car was broken into…the thief stole his wallet out of the glove box (which he just happened to leave in his car, a rarity for him).  I received a phone call at 4:30 a.m.  (we are an hour different and he was driving his sister to a 6 a.m. work out) questioning the possibility of the thief to “steal his identity”.   As I ponder the words “steal his identity” my mind flooded to the scriptures and the picture of Satan trying to snatch away our identity and make us believe we do not belong to Christ alone.

“Nikao” is a Greek word meaning victorious or overcoming.  This word appears 28 times in the Greek New Testament.  From the moment we become believer in Christ, we are also commanded to ‘nikao’ over evil with divine good, manifesting the character of Christ (Rom.12:21).  There are promises made to believers who overcome, ‘nikao’, prevail, conquer the temporal realm of Satan and the kingdom of darkness.  Some of these promises included: being clothed in white garments, given the morning star (Christ), protection of name in the book of life, given a new name on a white stone and seated on the Christ’s throne with Him.  Wow, these words are so majestic.  Absorb, these are promises given to you and me.  Jesus assures us that no-one, not even Satan and the world of darkness can ‘steal our identities’ and who we are in Him.  We will ‘nikao’ because Christ has already overcame by conquering sin and death.

So press on...‘nikao’…knowing that we are secure in HIM alone.

    1. We are Saved.
    2. We are Sanctified.
    3. We are Sealed with the Holy Spirit.
    4. We are Secure Eternally.
    5. We are Satisfied (Psalm. 103:5).

  • ...................................THANKSGIVING......................................

Whereas  it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and

Whereas  both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness":

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the Beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplication to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our national government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.  Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, AD 1789

  • Dead or Alive?

Sardis_acropolis_from_below_tb_n010700sardis The Church of Sardis write: "...I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and are dead'.  (Rev. 3:...1)  To me, this would seem like an oxymoron..'the living dead'.  It's strange that I would usually associate 'living dead' with a horror movie.  However, there are people who call themselves Christians are actually dead or near dead.  Many of our churches today are filled with people just like it was back in the days Pual wrote Revelations.  The redeeming news is that Jesus is still here...present...the morning star, who holds up the seven churches.

The church at Sardis went through the spiritual motions. It had a name that it was alive: It had a great reputation among the people of Sardis. But God condemns every single religious activity that is not directed by the Holy Spirit. The church at Sardis was living a lie. There wasn't even a reason to persecute it. Who would want to? The world is not going to persecute itself. Sardis was the world under the title church.

While most in the church at Sardis were in a dead spiritual state, "a few people" were faithful to Christ, and had "not soiled their clothes" (3:4). They were promised that they would be taken on a walk in Christ, and to be dressed in white (3:4-5).  Are you among the living?  Meet God and talk with Him, with your head bowed low...feel His breath upon you!!

And "Be watchful ..."  That command was especially for those in Sardis because on two occasions, the city hadn't kept anyone on guard, and it was captured. "... If, therefore, thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee."  So, "... hold fast ...and repent"!!

Let him who has ears...hear what the spirit of God has to say...May the Lord breath live into all those who are spiritually dead...or near death...so that they many repent and know the true God of Salvation.
